Portable Appliance Testing (PAT)

Under the Electricity at Work Regulations 1989, One Less Chore ensures all portable electrical equipment brought into clients’ homes is safe and regularly tested.

1. Equipment Requiring PAT Testing

  • Vacuum Cleaner (Henry Hoover): Class I appliance — requires annual PAT test and visual inspection before each use.
  • Steam Mop: Class I appliance — requires annual PAT test and visual inspection before each use.
  • Extension Leads and Reels: Class I — requires annual PAT test.
  • Any supplementary electrical equipment: Subject to the same testing regime.

2. Testing Schedule

All portable electrical equipment is tested annually by a competent person. Records of PAT testing — including test date, results, and any remedial actions — are maintained digitally and are available for inspection by clients upon request.

3. Pre-Use Visual Inspection

Before every use, the following visual checks are performed:

  • Plug casing: no cracks or damage; pins are straight and secure.
  • Cable: no cuts, fraying, or exposed wiring; cable is securely attached to plug and appliance.
  • Appliance casing: no cracks, burn marks, or loose components.
  • RCD (where fitted): test button is operational.

Any equipment failing a visual check is immediately withdrawn from service and replaced or repaired before reuse.

4. Records

Last PAT test date: [To be completed upon first test]. Next test due: [One year from first test]. This record is maintained by Ashley Pantry, Owner-Operator.
